How do I go to school, and have money just for basic necessities and travel if I cant work?

Danjk started this conversation
I lost my job 2 years ago. I ran out of unemployment and I cant find work anywhere. I was a construction worker since Ive been 18years old. I'm now 30, had to move back home and am now desperate. I was going to school, but I couldnt afford it anymore.
Even if I get loans and grants, my credit is probably shot, I still have loans from my previous college, and I wouldn't even be able to afford to make it to class if I had to take the train, subways and buses as that can cost me almost 300 a month in NYC from where I live.
Finding a job while stating I insist on going back to school is preventing me from finding work. Even if I say its nights and weekends. The type of jobs I'm qualified for don't care about what I want to do outside of work, they just want me to work, when they need me, late days, weekends, whatever.

How do I go to school, and have money just for basic necessities and travel if I cant work?

Everything happens for a reason. I have been where you are now. Be grateful that you have parents to go home to. I didn't have that opportunity. Go to your local school district and ask about FREE occupational/CTE (Career Technical Education) training programs. Then, post your response on this site. I know that there are many other careers/occupations which you may wish to consider, even if that means it has nothing to do with building/tearing down things (e.g., buildings). Start fresh, and open your mind to the possibilities. This is my first time on this post and I noticed your (recent) comment. Let me know what your results are once you complete step one.
